IRAS provides a free GST Registration Calculator that helps you work out whether your business has crossed the S$1 million taxable turnover threshold and must register. It takes into account which of your supplies are taxable (standard-rated and zero-rated) and which are exempt, since only taxable turnover counts towards the threshold.
Registration is compulsory on either the retrospective basis (taxable turnover exceeds S$1 million for the calendar year) or the prospective basis (you reasonably expect taxable turnover to exceed S$1 million in the next 12 months). Voluntary registration is also possible below the threshold.
